Mentoring/Spiritual Mothering
Teach the older women to be quiet and respectful They must
not go around speaking evil of others, and must not be
heavy drinkers, but they should be teachers of goodness.
These older women must train the younger women to live
quietly, to love their husbands and their children, and to
be sensible and clean minded, spending their time in their
own homes, being kind and obedient to their husbands, so
that the Christian faith can't be spoken against by those
who know them. Titus2:3&4
Spiritual mothering is a very necessary but often
overlooked ministry within the Christian church.
Spiritually mature and older women should couple the wisdom
gleaned from God's Word with their practical life
experiences, having seen God work through the many
circumstance. Sharing this gift under the anointing as the
apostle Paul commended is powerful. With working mothers so
commonplace, many younger women never had the blessing of
time spent with mother. Many mothers have been spiritually
unequipped, struggling through life grasping for answers
themselves, as a single parent or carrying unhealed baggage
of the past, and having no mentor themselves. The
opportunity for mentoring surrounds us. I believe the
hearts of young women are open to answers. With life
spinning out of control, they hunger for simple answers to
the life questions. Sexuality and freedom of speech have
been so callously exploited, the truth of God's love,
forgiveness, purity of heart, inner beauty, God given
femininity and simplicity of spirit are rare treasures
money can't buy, fashion can't fabricate and popularity
will never produce.
The Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, had a spiritual
mentor, Elizabeth her older cousin. Elizabeth had been
barren, unable to have children. In her postmenopausal
years, God allowed her to become pregnant. The baby would
be John the Baptist, forerunner to Jesus the Christ. She
was six months along when Mary traveled to visit her. Upon
the sound of Mary's voice, the baby within Elizabeth jumped
with joy. Both she and her unborn recognized this was
supernatural, that Mary's unborn baby was the Messiah. Mary
spent her first trimester with her pregnant Aunt Elizabeth.
They worshiped God, sharing wonderful fellowship, much like
an extended slumber party. They rejoiced in what God had
done for them and were blessed to have been chosen by God
to bring forth the Messiah who would save the world.
Elizabeth spiritually mothered her young teenaged cousin
during this special time for them as women and this most
pivotal point in history and Christianity. Thank God for
her mentoring spirit.
Father above, I ask You to open the heart of each mature
Christian woman reading this to become aware of the younger
ladies and girls you have placed within their circle of
influence to mother. Give them the awareness of the need by
Your Holy Spirit and the desire to invest in their lives
for their good and tile future of our world. Lord the young
women who are reading this, desiring truth, I ask You to
guide them to the women who have precious gems to deposit
within them for their betterment and to Your Glorify. Thank
You, Father. All God's girls say, "AMEN!"
