Lura's Old Fashioned Apple Crisp
Date: March 18, 2005

Ingredients: 
6 cups Granny Smith apples (may use your favorite apple), 
sliced (or chopped) with peal (or pealed) 
2 teaspoons lemon juice 
1/4 cup water 
1/2 cup granulated sugar (may substitute proportional 
amount of honey or your favorite artificial sweetener) 
1 teaspoon cinnamon 
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional) 
2 tablespoons flour (may use rice) 
1 cup brown sugar 
1 1/3 cups old fasioned oats (raw) 
1/2 cup butter (or margarine), softened 
 
Instructions: 
Combine apples, water and lemon juice in a lightly oiled 
2-quart baking dish; mix well. Sprinkle granulated sugar 
evenly over top of mixture. Combine remaining ingredients 
in separate bowl, mixing well. Top fruit mixture evenly 
with oat mixture. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 
30-45 45 minutes.Apples should be tendar and topping brown 
and crispy. Remove from oven and serve warm-to-room 
temperature. Top with light cool whip (may substitute 
vanilla yougart or ice cream). 
 
 
 
VARIATIONS FOR USE IN CRISP TOPPING (I have tried them all) 
 
 
1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or penans 
1/4 to 1/2 cup sliced almonds 
1/2 cup raisins 
1 cup cranberries 
1 cup frozen raspberries
